It is with great sadness that Scrapbooks Hawaii must say "ALOHA" to our dear friends in the Philippines. Sadly, the last SCRAPPER'S JAM in Oct 2009 was the last, too. I want to thank you beautiful ladies for your business, support, and friendships. One of the many blessings I count having Scrapbooks Hawaii in the Philippines is the wonderful friendships I made with each and everyone of you. I thoroughly enjoyed working with you for the past 4 years.

I want to especially mention the tremendous support and patience of Nenette of My Little Attic. Our friendship started in 2006 with a weird overseas phone call Nette received from an unheard-of-scrap-crazy woman from Hawaii who randomly found her through the internet. Tons of phone calls, emails, bboxes, and several ScrapJams later, forged a friendship and trust like no other. Nette, your friendship is one I truly treasure. Without you, Scrapbooks Hawaii wouldn't have happened in the Philippines. You helped open doors to friendships (all with their own crazy stories) and adventures (pati na rin misadventures--hehehe) I wouldn't have dreamt of. Again, maraming, maraming salamat to you and your entire family. :)

To all the Scrapbooks Hawaii DTs, Cabbie, Donna, Cookie, Issa, and Yoyin, you ladies are the best! Thank you very much for sharing your talents not only to the ladies in the Philippines, but to the ladies in Hawaii and mainland USA. Your works of art are inspiring! I want to also thank you for your warm friendships. Please continue to share your talents in your blogs or facebook so I can easily find them to scraplift. hehehe :)

No, I'm not going away. I will still be in the community as I continue my journey as a scrapper and a paper crafter. I am only an email, facebook post, blog, and/or even phone call away from you. I do hope that whenever I'll be able to come back to the Philippines to visit that we could all get together, crop and laugh the day away.

As I leave the business arena, my only request is to please continue to support your local scrapbook stores in the Philippines especially My Little Attic. You have such a wonderful bunch of scrapbook store owners, event planners, and teachers in the Philippines who truly care for this industry and hobby. Of course, we also have all the Pinay Scrapper Design Team members of various stores and manufacturers both in the Philippines and abroad. Your talents and achievements in this craft industry make me proud!

P.S. After I posted the above announcement, someone emailed me to ask for the reason sa closure. So, I figurued I'd share with everyone this late addition sa announcement post. Here's what I wrote back to her... :)

"hmmm...reason sa closure? mostly because pagod na ako and my doctor is getting really worried about my health kasi it's turning for the worst due to stress and lack of sleep. both of which get my blood pressure and my diabetes/sugar levels dangerously high. my kidneys, eyes and pancreas are also on constant watch sa lab work, etc. nakakapagod na rin ang magturok nang insulin sa tyan every night ano! i really think kasi i need to pay attendtion to my body for a change kasi i'm not getting any younger and i would love to see my grandchildren kay jian and alex kahit na that's another 20-30 years to go. hehehe

hindi na rin ako nakakapag-tinda dito kasi bihira lang ang opportunities to do so kaya yeah medyo may economic reason rin but obviously not the number 1 reason, though. mostly i want to give up the business side and just enjoy the process of creating. i don't want to give up my love for the habit...este hobby kasi of the variables i mentioned earlier. yun lang. :) "

BELATED MARAMING SALAMAT!

Better late than never…With Typhoon Pepeng looming over the country on Oct 1, and Nette and I worried about the safety of our JAMMERS, we decided to call and texted some of them. Nothing could really stop the resolve of majority of our die-hard JAMMERS who asked to push through as scheduled on Oct 3rd. Even with the news and messages that the typhoon could be as bad as the previous typhoon, go pa rin sila! Sabi nga ni Nette, mali raw ang kinakausap naming mga tao! LOL! But in the end, after we heard from reliable sources about the possible severity of the typhoon, we got very worried and had to think of everyone's safety and had to reschedule the JAM.

My heart-felt THANKS to all who attended and dropped by during the Oct 10th PHILIPPINE SCRAPJAM at Alexandra Clubhouse. I can't get over the enthusiasm and excitement I felt during the JAM. I hope everyone who attended and took the classes had fun with the classes, tried new techniques, are happy with their projects.

Jian and I had such a blast whenever we visit and see everyone’s beautiful faces eager to learn something new and looking forward to all the surprises we had in store for them. The loot bags got a lot of rave reviews not to mention the class kits! Of course, there were a few times that we had to cut short everyone’s shopping time for classes. And yes, I caught some of you browsing the store during class time and couldn’t resist the new, recently-released products and discounts.

Speaking of products, all the products we brought and sent to the Philippines were left with my friend and partner, Nette of My Little Attic. Please watch out for an announcement of a SH/MLA HOLIDAY SALE coming out soon! In the meantime, if you saw products that you wished you bought during the Jam, please contact Nette ASAP at nette@mylittleattic.com.

SCRAPJAM TOOL KIT

I'm soooo sorry. Hilo na talaga ako. I didn't realize that I sent the JAM TOOL KIT thru email. I thought I posted in the blog. I made a few changes sa make up sponges and heat gun, but most of them are the same items to bring. JAMMERS who are trying to get their tool kits together, here's the list:

SCRAPJAM TOOL KIT:

*Adhesives – both dry and wet,
*Scissors
*Trimmer
*12 inch ruler
*3 Distress Ink Pads (bring your own or share with a friend(s) and have at least 3 Distress Ink Pad colors—at least one each of light, medium and dark shades)
*Permanent black ink pad (archival or stazon)
*Ranger or Bazzill craft mat (optional)
*Ink blending tool and blending foam (or 3 makeup sponges for inking)
*4 makeup sponges (for painting)
*Baby wipes to clean your hands
*Clean dry rag to wipe your mat in between uses
*Repositionable adhesive (optional)
*3x3 or 3x4 or 3x5 acrylic block
*Heat gun (if you have with wattage or voltage converter nga ba yon? Also, we found out that there are not a lot of electric outlets sa Alexandra so we'll just have the heat guns at two table stations)
*Bind it All (if you have)

For the SCRAP CHALLENGE, we will need a total of 6 pictures: 1- 4x6 OR 3x5 picture and 5 wallet size (or smaller) pictures.

SCRAPJAM SCHEDULE--CHANGE!!!

JAMMERS and OPEN SHOPPERS,

We were called by the Alexandra Clubhouse Management and they informed us that we have to vacate the premises by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 10. As I'm sure you all know, we had to reschedule the JAM from Oct 3 to Oct 10.

When we moved the dates, they failed to inform us that the hours we had originally rented the space for on Oct 3 wasn't transferred. It was only a few seconds ago when Nette received the call from the management informing us nga of vacating the premises by 5:00 p.m. They couldn't extend us as we had requested for Oct 3 because there is another event to start at 6 p.m.

So, with that said, we have to adjust everything by an hour early. What does this mean? Instead of starting at 10 a.m., we will now start at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. Wala nang extension. JAMMERS who preordered distress inks, blending tools and craft mats, please lang come at 8 a.m. to pick up your preorders as we will need these for the first class.

Classes will be adjusted to an hour earlier. Here's the new schedule:

CARD SALE sa JAM

JAMMERS and OPEN SHOPPERS,

Oct 3 was World Cardmaking Day. A week late, but let's celebrate World Cardmaking Day on Saturday, Oct 10th and help out Typhoon Victims. How? Let me explain.

One of the JAMMERS had mentioned about fundraising with cards and I had to think how to do it equitably when it comes to scrap level and design na walang sasakit ang loob because their cards are not priced as much as their neighbor, etc. After all, this is for a worthy cause.

In the hospital where I work in Hawaii, we have BAKE SALES to raise funds. During bake sales, organizers and volunteers bring in baked items packed individually. They put them on tables and people come by and donate by dropping their money in the collection box and take the baked items equivalent to the donor's view as a fair value of the money he/she donated. The key phrase is FAIR VALUE.

I am looking at using the same idea nang BAKE SALE dito sa CARD SALE sa SCRAPJAM. Therefore, I am requesting all JAMMERS and OPEN SHOPPERS to please help sa cause either by donating cards, donating money and "buying" the cards, or both.

Please get your scraps, create cards between now and Friday night, bring the cards to the JAM and let's have a CARD SALE. The CARD SALE table won't be manned and will run on HONOR SYSTEM so when you guys come up to drop your donation in the collection box, no one is watching you as you grab the card or cards you think is the 'FAIR VALUE' of your donation. All proceeds sa CARD SALE will be donated to the Philippine Red Cross to help the flood victims during Typhoon Ondoy. I hope everyone will pitch in and help.

Tuloy na tuloy na po! RAIN OR SHINE. Pray po na wala nang bagyo or even rain. We're going to see everyone on Saturday, Oct 10th at Alexandra Clubhouse from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Just a few pointers lang po for the JAMMERS:

1. If you placed preorders, especially for Distress Ink Pads, Craft Mat and Blending Tools, please come early to pick up your preorders as we will use these items during the first class.

2. If you want to get the BEST pick of products, please come early. :) We only brought limited amounts of products.

3. For the SCRAP CHALLENGE, we will need a total of 6 pictures: 1- 4x6 OR 3x5 picture and 5 wallet size (or smaller) pictures.

ANNOUNCEMENT

as much as we would love to push through with the event this saturday (oct.3), the threat of tropical storm pepeng (parma) has constrained us to POSTPONE the scrapjam. the safety of the jammers and other participants is more important to us at this point.

the expected landfall of pepeng is on sunday in Northern Luzon BUT the change in weather should be felt as early as Friday or Saturday. typhoon Ondoy (packing maximum winds of 85kph near the center and a gustiness of 100 kph) left so many of our countrymen homeless and dead.

as it approached eastern samar, pepeng was tracked with maximum sustained winds of up to 130kph near its center and a gustiness of 160kph...and it's course has not changed.

after thorough deliberation, the organizers decided to just postpone the Jam and re-schedule it to next Saturday (OCTOBER 10).

we hope all of you understand and join us as we pray for the storm to spare our country.

Hello JAMMERS!!

Ilang tulog na lang at nandyan na kami. I hope I’m not forgetting anything. I still have quite a bit to do like packing, class kit prepping, and oh, wala pa akong class samples! hehehe

During last year’s SCRAPJAM, we went overtime by an hour because of the projects and the all around total fun! So, I’m apologizing in advance. Kasi our flier for the PHILIPPINE SCRAPJAM 2009 is currently showing from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and we will be adding a whole hour to the SCRAPJAM and it’s now going to be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. I hope this is a welcome news to you and that it doesn’t cause inconvenience in anyone’s schedules.

MINI BOOK of TECHNIQUES with Marisa

You’ve read about these techniques, you’ve seen them on layouts online and in magazines, and yes, Tim Holtz and Jennifer McGuire demo these techniques! So aside from wanting to be right there with Tim and Jen while they’re demo’ing, don’t you wish you could try out these techniques and see the results firsthand? Well, here’s your chance! Let’s get those hands dirty! We will be working on various techniques using products from top scrapbook manufacturers to include chipboard, inks, paints, glitter, masks, etc., and yes, we’ll even add a little bit of water! :) We will explore the beautiful effects of putting several products together and see them actually transform right in front of us. We will create a mini album of techniques you can use as reference when deciding what techniques to use on future layouts.

Yup! You read that right! If there ever is a MODEL MOM contest, I'll win it--hands down! hehehe No, silly, not physically a model here (unless you're looking for a big, round, fat model), but one who is truly caring....enough to ensure that her daughter will have enough clothes while in the Philippines. :)

The bbox with Jian's clothes and a couple of gifts for my family has been picked up and on it's way to the Philippines! Why you ask? Well, so I can put more "SCRAPPINESS" in the suitcases and boxes I'll be bringing for the SCRAPJAM! Do we really need to ask why???? hehehe

Stay with me folks--isn't this mom a thoughtful, caring one ensuring that my baby has clothes to wear while vacationing and spending time with all ther scrappin' aunties in the Philippines?

BTW, I need everyone's prayers...please pray that the bbox won't get delayed or else my poor baby might have to go naked part of the time she's in the Philippines!!!! Poor baby was VERY frustrated shopping last year for clothes that'll fit her--akalain ba ninyo, walang magkasya!!! Galit na galit at bakit raw ang liliit nang mga Filipinas (she didn't dare look at me--exemption to the rule yata ako! hmmph!). LOL!

One of these things is not like the other… Alin, alin, alin ang naiiba? It’s been a while since I’ve heard both songs, but I think you know where I’m going…or do you? ;-)

We’re playing a GAME-- a SCRAPJAM GAME! Yup, even BEFORE the actual SCRAPJAM in October! :-D

Hello Philippine Scrappers!

Just a quick explanation of the Logo contest rules: You may use any program you're comfortable using when creating the logo. However, you may also hand-draw your entry. All we need later is for you to scan it to the specs we requested so we can use the logo to print on the totes we're using for the loot bags during the Jam. We will also be printing the logo on shirts we will use during the Jam.

Here's a very simple layout I did last week during the BYO at the Kalihi Library using the Adornit's Tweet Birdie Swirls and Prairie papers, Technique Tuesday stamp and light blue fringe from STUNNING, and Anna Griffin's solid-colored brad and journaling card from BREATHTAKING. OHANA was cut from BB Raven cardstock using the SLICE and i also added some Prima flowers to the journaling card. It's hard to see here, but I also added stickles to the petals of the flower on the Tweet Birdie Swirls paper to bump it up a bit.

I know, I know, it’s L-A-T-E!!! I was hoping we could do a March reveal last week, Feb 28th to be exact, but I’m still waiting on a couple more manufacturers to send me the products I ordered from CHA to complete the kit. I am hoping that we will receive the products soon so we can put together the March kit already. Sorry, our March reveal is going to be a bit late. I am shooting for March 15th for the March kit reveal. Here’s a hint on our March kit…LIGHTS & BRIGHTS!

April reveal? April reveal should be right on track and it’s going to be on March 31!!! Yep, that’s only a two week difference, but I’m sure you’re going to love what you’ll see with both these kits and eat them up! :) I am very excited about the new products I already have at hand and I’m sure you’ll be thrilled to have these kits soon!

Finally, just to keep you in the loop, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the http://www.scrapbookshawaii.com/ website is still under construction. I just hit a major roadblock with it—my laptop’s motherboard died!!! My laptop is still out in HP world for almost THREE WEEKS now being fixed and hopefully, I’ll have it back soon. I can’t believe how much I depended on this machine until it died! I was having some laptop withdrawals a few hours after I dropped it off with the Geek Squad! LOL! :D I am now at the mercy of my DH and my two spoiled children. It’s tough getting on their computers as they’re almost always on them when I’m finally available to get on the computer to read my emails. *sigh*

Hope everyone's Valentine was SWEET! :)

I spent a few hours of my Valentine's Day among friends at Kalihi-Palama Library teaching a class using all the products that came from our FIRST KISS kit. And yes, we had leftovers from the kit after creating all 5 projects: two 12x12 papers, scraps and lots more embellishments to create two more page layouts. The only item we used aside from the FIRST KISS kit in the class was the 6x6 mini album. Below are what we made.

Our first kit, FIRST KISS class in Hawaii

I'm back in Hawaii now from CHA and visiting the MOUSE with my good friend and niece, Rollyn (from the Philippines). Rollyn should be at home now resting. We had such a blast picking all new products from CHA to use for our monthly kits until approx. July of this month. After which, we will be working on our new kits from July to January picking products from the Summer CHA.

We used two new lines, Love Notes from Making Memories and Bittersweet from Basic Grey to create our first Scrapbooks Hawaii's February Kit, FIRST KISS.

For folks in Hawaii, I am having a class on Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Kalihi-Palama library using the FIRST KISS. We will create 5 projects: 2-12x12 layouts, a 24-page 6x6 album, and 2 cards. A black post-bound album will also be included with the kit to complete your class kit. Class will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Class fee is $50.00. A portion of the class fee will be donated to the Friends of the Kalihi-Palama library.

Sorry that I could only offer this class on Valentine’s Day, but that’s the only Saturday in February the library is available. Oh, GIFT IDEAS: 6x6 album project and cards are great gift ideas to give your date on Valentine’s Day or any special event. wink-wink :D

I had sooooo much fun yesterday sa JAM!!!! I hope all the JAMMERS also had fun and enjoyed the day. And yes, my supposed jet-lagged daughter, Jian, is still bouncing off the wall. Salamat to all of you--it was nice seeing familiar faces and putting faces to names and also meeting a lot of newbies.

Jian already wants to come back next year. Can you tell she enjoyed herself, too? Yes, she's reading behind me as I type this with her head nodding up and down like those little bubble-head dogs sa car dashboards (remember those?). hehehe. She was soooo excited this morning kasi we were going to shop for her clothes, but hindi nya alam that this scrapaddict mom of hers has a two-pronged reason for being at Glorietta. One is to shop for her clothes and the other to check out the Ready, Set, Scrap! Yes, she's more mellow now, but not still can't stop talking with her loud booming voice...*sigh*

Hubby was supposed to fly to the Philippines today, but his flight was cancelled because of typhoon "Frank". Sana hindi masama ang panahon sa pag-alis namin ni Jian on Jul 3rd. We'll arrive sa Manila on July 4th. Please pray for good weather. BTW, rain or shine po, basta hindi cancelled ang flight namin, tuloy ang ScrapJam ha? Salamat po!

Yipeeeee!!!! Uuwi ako!!! I can't wait. Excited na excited na nga ako. I'm bringing with me my daughter Jian. Dapat kasi ang uwi ko in May for the Scrapfest, but my boss in my fulltime job is scared of short deadlines. Ang hindi nya alam, mas maraming deadlines in July!!!! Bwwaaaahaha! :D

Anyway, Nette and I are planning an EB. We're not sure of the venue and other details yet, but please save July 5th to play with me. A lot of my orders from the 2008 Winter CHA started trickling in mid-Feb with a big bulk arriving this past week with Bazzill Basics, Anna Griffin, Fancy Pants, Scenic Route, Kaisercraft, Bo Bunny, K and Company to name a few. Hindi pa nga tapos ilagay lahat satindahan. Wala na akong space! Ngiiii!
